Puppy Guide -- A Rush to the Bathroom

Having a puppy can be one of the most challenging things that someone who loves dogs can do. They are so immature that sometimes it’s hard to understand how to deal with them. The great thing about puppies is that they are young and you are able to train them the way you see fit as opposed to a dog who is older and usually already set in their ways. Training a puppy is by no means an easy feat to accomplish. It takes time and effort and you need to be dedicated to the task of training them because it’s easy to become complacent and just decide that today you won’t practice with him. Its things such as these that make owners complain that their puppy isn’t getting what he is trying to teach him or her. It is a good policy to compare puppies to children. When they are young they don’t know much and often make lots of mistakes, but you don’t give up on them. You train and teach them as much as you can and hope that they pick up the things you teach them along the way. The rule also applies to puppies. In order for them to become what you want them to be and to act and behave the way you think they should then you need to always be training them and never let a day go by without practicing something because just like children the next day they already forgot everything you taught them from the night before.

When you first have a puppy the most important thing that you need to teach him is where to go to the bathroom. This is vitally important especially if you have carpet and you don’t want it to be ruined. Even if you don’t have any carpet its best for you to teach him that only certain areas are places where he can go to the bathroom. There are many places either online or in a store that sell absorbent pads that can be used for this training and I highly recommend that at the beginning stages you invest in one of these pads. The key here is to place the pad somewhere that won’t be an eyesore and is out of people’s way. If and when he starts to go to the bathroom somewhere other than that pad it will be your job to take him to the pad as soon as he starts. What this simply does is associate an action to a location. His action of going to the bathroom is being associated with both the pad itself and the location of the pad. If you do this consistently, it won’t be long before he is going to the bathroom on that pad without any intervention from anyone.

Puppies may be young but their success is all in how you train them and if you are consistent with it. To have a successful puppy you yourself need to be successful.
